It would seem pointless to invest time, energy and money into environmentally friendly solutions such as Recycling,
if we just spend all that benefit transporting the materials long distances for eventual disposal would it not?
Yet that is exactly what is happening to the vast majority of Waste collected within Carmarthenshire.
A large percentage of the recyclable materials currently collected from civic amenity, local bring sites and kerbside collections across the county - are sent for 'end of life' recycling elsewhere in the UK and often abroad.
This process is costly both in terms of economic and social impacts but also highlights the increased burdens we place on the environment, particularly our dependence on oil.
