theARCproject;

Based in Ammanford, the scheme has been designed by theARCproject - a social enterprise support company and waste minimisation organisation. The project has already received 'in-kind' support from several local businesses including Gwlad Deg, where it is currently establishing Ammanford's first Community Network Hub & WIFI hotspot.

Having been shortlisted for the Welsh Assembly Government - Sustainable Development Challenge Fund; SustainIT will be pitching for a £10,000 prize at The Hay Festival 2011.

The Green Dragons Den is a part of the Hay On Earth event and will give SustainIT the opportunity to sell its sustainable business model and secure much needed capital investment.

Many companies offer Waste Disposal Solutions to business and the public sector, while local authorities allow members of the public to freely dispose of there waste electrical equipment at local Civic Amenity and Bring Sites. SustainIT believes "All of the above are both costly and unsustainable". The majority of this waste stream is designated for end-of-life recycling and is bulk transported for further reprocessing and treatment, other items are shipped abroad for their component parts. All cease to be usable local resources.

By offering local recycling, reclamation & reuse services within the local Community the extra benefits of skills, training and business will be shared equally within the local Community. This will show "Sustainable Development in Practise" and allowing much of the current surplus, redundant and outdated electrical equipment to be repaired, re-installed and redistributed to better meet the needs of the local Community.
