Agricultural and Industrial

Like the large majority of towns in South Wales, the mining industry has gone.

  • 2009 is the 25th anniversary of the national miners' strike.

Talking and listening to local people you are all to aware how emotive this issue still is. Whatever your political or social opinion, the fact remains that these strong industrialised communities suffered greatly from high unemployment, homelessness, poverty and even starvation.  All of this in a 'first world' country.

What remains in Ammanford can be seen as depressing, it is certainly viewed by many as being deprived and in need of regeneration. Continued attempts to rejuvenate the area have had varying degrees of success and failure.

  • The manufacturing and construction sector is once again struggling.

  • Agriculture has become highly centralised and removed from the locality.

  • Retail has become externalised, with continued growth in out-of-town shopping centre complexes and increased motor vehicle use and new 'relief' road developments.

The production industries that moulded the landscape of the Welsh Valleys have been replaced by a fractured and devolved post-consumer society.

Community and Environment
Rurban regeneration, seeks to improve the social fabric and structure of Rydaman and its surrounding area.  Without the restrictions imposed by formal authoritarian mapping, theARCproject works within the ancient and historic boundaries of Dinefwr.

We aim to promote the many benefits associated with living in modern and sustainable Wales, by working with local communities providing affordable opportunities for micro-development.

From low-cost advertising and marketing to office and administration, we are able to support grassroots involvement in generating social change; sharing an awareness of:

  • Peak Oil
  • Energy Descent
  • Local Sustainable Development.
